How does Scrotox® work? The mechanism of action

The scrotum is permeated by muscle fibres — the dartos muscle — which contract or relax the skin to regulate temperature. This muscle activity causes the typically wrinkled, contracted phases (in cold or tension) and the relaxed, smoother phases (in warmth).

Botulinum toxin blocks the nerve impulses to these muscle fibres. The result: the muscles relax permanently — the scrotum hangs more relaxed, the skin becomes smoother and less wrinkled, and the overall impression is fuller and more voluminous. At the same time, the sweat glands in this area are inhibited by the botulinum toxin, which reduces moisture and odour formation.

Scrotox® is suitable for men who want aesthetic or functional improvements in the intimate area — without a surgical solution:

The procedure of the Scrotox® treatment

The treatment is uncomplicated and takes only a few minutes for the actual injection. The entire clinic stay is approx. 30–45 minutes:

Consultation

Before the treatment, there is a detailed consultation — via video or at the clinic. Dr Spanholtz discusses your individual wishes, expectations and clarifies all medical questions. Important points: current medication (especially blood thinners), desire to have children, pre-existing conditions.

Local anaesthesia

The scrotum is anaesthetised with a numbing cream or a local injection. As soon as this takes effect, the actual treatment is virtually painless.

The injection

The botulinum toxin is injected with a fine needle at several points into the skin of the scrotum — carefully distributed for an even result. The procedure itself only takes a few minutes.

Course of effect

First results appear after a few days. The final result is fully visible after approx. 2 weeks, once the botulinum toxin has developed its full effect. The effect usually lasts 4 to 6 months — after which the treatment can be easily repeated.

Aftercare: What should be considered?

  • No special care instructions required
  • Normal everyday activities can be resumed immediately after the treatment
  • Slight swelling or redness at the injection sites is normal and subsides within a few days
  • Avoid intense physical exertion on the day of treatment
  • Sexual activity: consult the doctor — usually possible again after a few days

Frequently asked questions about Scrotox®

Is Scrotox® painful?
No — thanks to local anaesthesia, the treatment is virtually painless. The application of the numbing cream and, if necessary, the anaesthetic injection are briefly noticeable. The actual botulinum toxin injections are not painful with a very fine needle and after complete anaesthesia.
How long does Scrotox® last?
Usually 4 to 6 months. The botulinum toxin is gradually broken down by the body, the muscles recover and the original wrinkles gradually return. A refresher treatment is easily possible and is recommended when the effect wears off.
Does Scrotox® have an effect on fertility?
The temperature regulation of the scrotum serves to protect the sperm — the scrotum contracts in cold to warm the testicles and relaxes in warmth. Scrotox® temporarily restricts this function. As long as it remains at a few, targeted injections, the effect is usually minimal. However, we recommend that men with an active desire to have children discuss the topic openly during the consultation before a treatment takes place.
How quickly will I see first results?
First results are already visible after a few days. The complete result appears after approx. 2 weeks, once the botulinum toxin has fully taken effect and the muscles are permanently relaxed.
